Construction

Star Elementary was built in 1958 with an addition added in 1963.  Beginning in the Fall of 2014 major construction took place.  A complete remodeling of the school has included new drop ceilings, LED lighting, new windows, and new tile floors. Also, a nurse's station has been added and technology has been upgraded in classrooms.  A library media center and computer lab were added as an addition to the building.

ABOUT US

Star Elementary is a small rural school located in Eastern Carter County, Kentucky. Star serves students from Pre-K through fifth grade.  Our school's motto is "Hand in Hand We Learn" and we strive to do that daily.  Our school's mission is to LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND, while teaching all students to achieve at high levels.

What makes Star Elementary a high achieving school?

At Star, we have high expectations for all students regardless of background or socioeconomic status.  We believe that all children are capable of learning and meeting the KY Common Core goals.  Our high expectations begin at the earliest grades and students are given the support, encouragement, and guidance to succeed.  This support consists of practices such as:

*We connect with our students on a personal level making them feel at home and comfortable enough to ask for help, share experiences, and learn from one another in a family atmosphere.

*In-depth data analysis of student assessments and creation of individualized RTI plans and instruction to meet the needs of all students.

      * We strive to provide additional support and enrichment for students already meeting proficient goals so that they may aim even higher and soar to distinguished status.  We also provide support for struggling readers through our Reading Recovery program.  We use research-based techniques for instruction and teachers make sure that all students are actively engaged in rigorous instruction.  Through the use of rigorous instruction students must understand concepts deeply and apply their knowledge to real world situations.

*Providing feedback, postive reinforcement and rewards help students to stay excited about the learning process.
